And this is where many people don’t know what to do. Some will just ignore, while other will go for new lights. But there may be another easy solution.

How to brighten your solar landscaping lights

You can improve the performance of your lights to give you optimal brightness. All you need is some maintenance ideas. Here are some:

Tools;

  • A damp paper towel
  • Small, Phillips-head screwdriver
  • A fine-grit sandpaper
  • A toothpick
  • Solar battery

Step 1: Examine each solar light or panel at the top part

Sometimes the top part may be separated from the light. General, the panel is always on top of the lamp though in some models they are separated. Check for debris, carefully brushing them off and cleaning with a dumb paper towel. Even small amounts of debris may block maximum sunlight from reaching the solar.

Step 2: Observe

During the day, keep eyes on the cleaned lights ensuring maximum solar hits them. Do this periodically during the day, ensuring there is no shade from stray plant leaves covering the lights. If you notice the area is losing access to sunlight, move the lights to another area. Keep note of the area you originally intended to install them when moving so that you don’t go further than 2 feet away.

Step 3: Check again during the night

The light should be brighter now. Check a few times during the night and if you notice some lights are dimmers, wait until daybreak to take the next action. Then use the screwdriver to remove the lead of each dim light. Remove any dirt and debris inside – this may come from rain and wind. Such makes the lights dim. Ensure you check the battery compartment in each light. If there is corrosion, clean replace the battery and cover it up.

Step 4: If some lights are still dim, revamp them

You can replace the batteries in such lights. Disassemble the housing with your screwdriver, remove the old battery and replace with new ones before reassembling the housing. All your lights should shine brighter now.

Final thought

If you want your solar lights to last longer and shine brighter, maintain them properly. Always clean the solar panel regularly. Apart from that, compare models when purchasing. Some lights are meant for ambient access only and not bright lighting. You want to make sure you have the right one. Finally, ensure the battery or batteries are in good shape. Consider replacing them every after two years.
